This New Horror Film Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a dare for long-term couples who enjoy horror films: Get comfortable with your partner and view Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its streaming debut on Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like typical biological terror, but beneath Together exists a profound examination about the ways we decide to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together is the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for over ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, the two stars contribute a unique chemistry to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The narrative starts when Millie and Tim move from the big city to the countryside for her career. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the conventions cease. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and the protagonists fall into an underground cave. After spending the night there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity begins influencing the pair. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying of scares, interspersing moments of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes during something disturbing). Michael Shanks weaves these elements together expertly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is waning due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and removed from his network of friends. He is terrified of the idea of totally forfeiting his sense of self in Millie. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he can’t drive and relies on Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie avoids making one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

Both characters face the kind of problems that arise in long-term unions over a long period. Deep down, they still love one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these concerns of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the allegory never feels overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a strong argument for staying single. Conversely, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could act as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the finale sow anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply turn to your other half and state, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can experience today.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform at present.
