The former Brazilian president arrested after being deemed a flight risk

Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was sentenced of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and handed more than 27 years in prison, but he remained under house arrest pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information came to light.

This involved attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a call for a public vigil that could "allow for a potential flight.

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the detention, the judge said intelligence from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the tracking monitor to ensure success in his getaway".

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the chaos caused by the gathering called by his offspring.

His son, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his backers near his father's house to take place on Saturday evening.

The senator wrote on digital networks on Friday: Will you battle for your homeland, or see it all from your mobile device there on your settee? I invite you to battle with us."

He said the demonstration would be so supporters could offer prayers for his well-being and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our nation."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the judge's decision was the chance of the former president's transfer to foreign missions near the residence, considering that the inquiries revealed a background of arranging to seek refuge through a embassy office", a statement said.

The judicial paperwork underscores that the US embassy in the national capital, the capital city, is positioned around 8 miles from Bolsonaro's home.

Worldwide Consequences

The former president's legal troubles have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist American leader Trump, causing him to implement a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

Bolsonaro is being kept in a federal law enforcement building in Brasilia and will undergo a detention review on the following day.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on the previous day that the former president's lawyers asked the Supreme Court to authorize him to complete his entire prison term under domestic detention, with electronic monitoring.

They also petitioned that Bolsonaro be authorized to exit his dwelling for medical treatment, saying he required frequent medical attention for lung conditions and other health problems.

Background on Conviction

Bolsonaro was found guilty of orchestrating a conspiracy aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the national vote to his ideological adversary, Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he was aware of a plan which encompassed plans to assassinate Lula and his running partner, Alckmin, and to imprison and murder the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been managing his judicial proceedings.

The scheme was prevented because it couldn't obtain the support of the army and air force commanders. The current president was sworn in without issue on the first day of 2023.

But a following week, on the eighth of January, numerous his backers stormed and vandalised official structures in the national capital, the capital city.

The police intervened and around approximately 1,500 persons were arrested.

The judges found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by Bolsonaro whose scheme, they said, was for the Brazilian military to take action, reestablish control and reinstate his authority.

At the time, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the 27 years and three months sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also prohibited from campaigning for office until the year 2060 - a decade minus two years after the conclusion of his imprisonment.

The ex-leader called the trial a political persecution and said it was intended to stop him participating in the next presidential race.
